The Golden Ass 2010

A video shot in 2010 at the Wild Burro Rescue Ranch in California for an exhibition at The Box gallery in Los Angeles. The Wild Burro Rescue Ranch rescues and provides shelter for wild burros or donkeys that are currently under threat by ranchers and federal agencies. Burros are not native to the United States, and were brought from Europe. At first widely used along with mules and horses for farming and transportation, they are now seen as intrusive species to be culled. The titles is a reference to the famous novel by Apuleius ( 124- 170 A.D.), which recounts the transformation of its human protagonist into a donkey. The title is a reference to the famous novel by Apuleius (124-170 A.D.), which recounts the transformation of its human protagonist into a donkey.
