Stillleben
performance
2010
Two actors, walking approximately a hundred meters apart from one another, stop at irregular intervals as if struck by something, such as an obstacle, a feeling, a thought, a memory, or a sensation. The actors were instructed to act out as many different forms of this familiar reaction as they could, varying the degree and intensity of their arrest, as well as the length of time that they stood in place. Linked by their proximity, the performers’ actions alternately blended in and stood out from those of the crowd. This work was created for an exhibition of performances at the Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt. Different itineraries were chosen throughout the city and the piece was performed daily for an hour over a period of four days.
