a distraction 2010
An LED-light embedded into a white wall flashes rapidly at eleven second intervals. The flash attracts the viewer’s attention by its brightness, and escapes it by its speed and the length of the delay between each flash. The interval was determined by reading psychological studies on distraction, which set the average length of time devoted to determining the source of a distraction at eight seconds. Three additional seconds were added to ensure an ebb of attention.
